The flag policy was adopted at the July 2022 Council meeting.

Project Overview

A draft flag policy has been noted by Council and is now open for 42 days’ public comment. This policy will support the raising of Aboriginal flag alongside the National flag and State flag. Council's old flagpoles, located on top of Chambers, will be permanently decommissioned due to structural issues.

Project Details

On 28 October 2021, Council allocated up to $10,000 to purchase and install three new flag poles on the lawns of the Derwent Valley Council Chambers in Circle Street, New Norfolk. The State Protocol Office was consulted on the flag poles’ location and layout, and all necessary approvals obtained. See installation plan (below). Work to install the new flag poles will commence in May 2022.

A Flag Policy to direct Council on management of the flags was drafted by Council Officers, informed by research into other Council's Flag Policies and the requirements of the State Protocol Office and Commonwealth Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. This draft is now open for public comment.
